Comic book movies are tough to get just right. That said, let’s be honest with ourselves… the Wolverine films haven’t been spectacular. Wolverine 3, however, might just buck that trend.
Back in July of 2015, Hugh Jackman took to Twitter to ask his fans what they want to see in the next Wolverine film.
My last time putting on the claws. What do you want to see happen? 50 words or less. I'll read as many as I can. pic.twitter.com/ksA1Gii5tf

Naturally, he got flooded with thousands upon thousands of replies. Many of the requests involved Logan going berserk, fighting Sabretooth, giving the film an R-rating and following the Old Man Logan arc, which is amazing and definitely worth the read if you haven’t done so. Now, you can’t make all the people happy all the time… but you can make a lot of people happy at once.
Deadpool has been an absolute hit, and giving the film an R-rating was necessary to make sure it would be everything the fans wanted. The producers of Wolverine 3 definitely keyed in on that, as they’ve confirmed that Wolverine 3 will be R-rated. It’s also going to be based on the Old Man Logan saga. The R-rating, and the Old Man Logan plot, have been hinted at for a while and the rating was, supposedly, targeted before the massive success of Deadpool. Regardless of whether that’s true or not, we’re likely in for the best Wolverine film of the bunch.
Director James Mangold and the rest of the production crew have always been keen on giving Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine a bloody farewell, so the Old Man Logan arc seems a fitting way to go out. The series is set in an alternate universe where a few supervillains, and the Hulk, have taken over the United States (I won’t tell you how) and something so crazy happened that Logan refuses to be violent ever again. The comic itself is extremely violent and Wolverine, eventually, gets in on the action.
Heroes, Alien: Covenant, and Blade Runner 2 writer Michael Green is scripting Wolverine 3 while Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Deadpool) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Martian) are set to produce. Filming begins in March.
