Comedian and actress Wanda Sykes ain’t exactly known for being an ingenue, but she recently made headlines when she started cursing off her audience during a recent show in Boston for the “Comics Come Home” festival. And President-elect Donald Trump is also somehow involved, because of course he is…
Things got heated when Sykes made the joke assuring her audience that Trump was not the first racist politician, just the first “confirmed” one. To her surprise, the audience actually got upset and started to boo her. Sykes then started to curse them out. You know, I just can’t do it justice, just watch the damn thing above. And before I forget, it ain’t safe for work.
It is a little unclear if the audience came with the intention to boo her or were her genuine fans that felt she went too far with the political humor. Personally, I think they were just a bunch of friendly ghosts, and everything got lost in translation.
Sykes denied the event was as bad it appeared, and said it was taken out of context. “I wanted to address some of the accounts that have come up about last Saturday’s show in Boston,” Sykes wrote.
“First of all, I was not booed OFF stage. I didn’t go anywhere. I was booed while ON stage in the middle of my set. Some people in the audience didn’t want to hear my Trump jokes. Hell, I couldn’t even get to the punch lines. They were booing the setups. They were yelling for me to shut the F up and to go F myself, so I simply told them how that made me feel.”
She also claimed that, “It was a great moment and it gave me a little hope for our future. Peace & Love, Wanda.”
