Leave it to the car of the people to act all friendly for decades before doing something really damn sneaky right under our noses. We’re talking about you, Volkswagen.
Anyhow, more than one million Volkswagen vehicles are affected with a software that greatly lowers the output of emissions when in for testing for certain cars with diesel engines. The actual emissions of the car are some 40% greater than what’s allowed by the Environmental Protection Agency. Naturally this caused the EPA to accuse the company of purposely evading pollution tests, which is exactly what they did. The trust of the customer has also gone out the window faster than a dog would lick a dish.
Volkswagen has set aside a staggering $7.3 billion to fix all the cars, but they may get slapped with $18 billion in lawsuits. Just in case you were wondering, they made roughly $15 billion last year so they’ve essentially set aside half of their profit and will likely see a decline in sales since they’ve betrayed the trust of the entire fucking world. Their stock even dropped roughly 40% in two days.
The EPA has ordered Volkswagen to recall nearly 500,000 vehicles sold in the United States from 2009 to 2015. So, if you own a Golf, Passat, Jetta or Beetle from ’09-’15 then you’ll probably be getting a new car.
