Warner Bros. Tomb Raider reboot is coming and no, it won’t be starring Angelina Jolie. Instead, the March 16, 2018 film will star Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), who did a bang up job in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Ex Machina as well.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tomb Raider is taking the spot of an untitled and unannounced DC Comics film, which we can only assume is James Cameron’s Aquaman. Seriously, that needs to be made more than Avatar 2 and 3.
The upcoming reboot will get a release in both 3D and IMAX, because people just love paying 15 bones for a 3D movie that gives you a headache all for two scenes shot in 3D. It was previously speculated that Daisey Ridley would get the role, but we’re going to assume that her commitment with Star Wars is just a force that cannot be reckoned with for the next few years.
Norwegian director Roar Uthaug is directing the project, which is a co-prpodctuion with Warner Bros., MGM and GK Films. Polygon reports that the reboot is set to take its inspiration from Crystal Dynamics’ newer games, which offered a new take on the iconic character. Rise of the Tomb Raider, the latest game in the series, is scheduled for release on Playstation 4 later this year. This is good news for Sony fans who didn’t own a Windows PC or Xbox One, as the aforementioned systems exclusively hosted the game since January and November respectively.
