Thanks To Left Shark, Katy Perry Is An Emmy Nominee

This year’s Primetime Emmy nominations resulted in a variety of surprises, as it usually does. A lot of Emmy-winning shows and actors were snubbed in favor of some questionable nominees. Deadline gave a rundown of the biggest snubs of the year, which includes hit shows Empire and The Big Bang Theory.

One of the surprising nominations went to Katy Perry, whose Super Bowl halftime show will be up for an Emmy in the Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program category. That beach-themed performance featured a lion, Perry in a fire dress and, most notably, the out-of-step backup dancer known as Left Shark, who became a viral sensation following the performance.

Perry took to Twitter to share her excitement over her nomination. She also exclaimed how proud she is of everyone who was involved in the performance.

In case you’re curious, other contenders in the category include portions of Key & Peele, Childrens’ Hospital, Zack Galifianakis and Billy Eichner, who hosts Billy on the Street. Eichner also took to Twitter to offer these words for Left Shark:

One can only hope that Left Shark shows up to the award ceremony to accept the Emmy on behalf of Katy Perry. Don’t think she’d mind much!
