We finally have a trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and, by the looks of it, Gareth Edwards plans to make this one a real thriller.
Felicity Jones, playing Jyn Erso, immediately strikes me as the female equivalent of Han Solo(without the sarcasm), as some unnamed authority figure lists off her numerous transgressions including forgery of Imperial documents, aggravated assault and resisting arrest. She then finds herself amongst the Rebels after crushing on some Stormtrooper skulls and is put in charge of stealing the plans for a new weapons test.
SPOILER ALERT: IT’S THE DEATH STAR
And yeah, those plans are for the original Death Star that Leia hid in R2’s memory banks way back in 1977. So this is a prequel to the original films Edwards said he wanted to make this Star Wars film a grittier one than we’re used to, and if the high pitched noises, Forest Whitaker sighting, possible Lord Jar Jar sighting (1:18) and menacing black Stormtrooper are any indication then I’d say he’s onto something.
There’s also some dude in a cape who looks like Sting, but maybe listening to The Police on repeat got Sting on the brain. It’ll be interesting to see how all these projects with different directors turn out, but we’ll all be seeing it regardless… won’t we?
