Those of us who grew up in the 90s know all about the wonders of the original Pokemon cartoon. Now the Pokemon Company are releasing a spin-off entitled Great Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Duo.
It’s a bit odd I’ll admit, but it’s Pokemon… so it shouldn’t strike us as all that surprising. The game centers around, you guessed it, Pikachu playing a detective. He’ll be slinging back cups of coffee and solving crimes like a detective from the 1950s in this new 3DS game. It’s only out in Japan as of now and hasn’t been given a western release date, but we know it’s coming.
That said, fans are speaking up and suggesting who they think should voice Pikachu in the English language version of the game. This is where it gets good. A petition was launched on Change.org to cast Danny DeVito as Detective Pikachu. Seriously. The petition is closing in on its goal of 50,000 signatures and we really hope that Nintendo seriously consider giving DeVito a go.
The description reads, “There are a number of us that feel as though Danny DeVito would be a prime fit for the voice acting role of the Detective Pikachu. We want to make this happen.”
DeVito has experience with voice acting, but it’s highly unlikely that Nintendo will call on him to voice the iconic yellow Pokemon. However, weirder things have happened.
