Schlitterbahn water park in Kansas City has been constructing a water slide so massive it needed a name to match just how frightening it is. The Verrückt is the name of the slide and boy does it sound terrifying. To put a face to the name first let’s give you some stats about the ride.
It’s 168 feet and 7 inches tall, which is 17 feet TALLER than the Statue of Liberty. Oh, and it’s also taller than Niagara Falls. After you climb 264 steps you’ll find yourself atop the 17 story slide, which reportedly will send you on your way at 65mph. If that doesn’t sound scary enough then how does it feel knowing that you’re going to be velco strapped into the ride?
Hopefully they’ve gotten everything all figured out because early tests of the ride showed something rather unnerving. Sandbags were used in place of human weight in the first round of tests and, well, just watch what happened.
Yep. The whole damn raft shot into the air. Doesn’t that make you want to ride this thing even more? I mean, now they’ve got nets around it so you probably won’t shoot off into space, I don’t know if that makes me more or less inclined to try this bad boy out.
Here’s the raw POV footage just in case you were wondering what it looks like from the rider’s perspective.
