Get Down With Mama K & The Shades’ “Honey Made”

It’s time to get your funk on with the groovy sounds of Mama K & The Shades. The flavor-filled band from Austin, Texas delivers with Honey Made, an innovative album that will not disappoint. Bringing high energy and funky grooves from the stage to their tracks, they are sure to get your booty shakin’! And with those styling track suits you know they mean business.

Their ability to combine multiple styles of funk, soul, R&B and jazz drives the band to bring you a one-of-a-kind party experience. Kelsey Garcia’s powerhouse vocals emulate the silk and satin sounds of R&B, which help to lay down some seriously smooth tracks and the multi-talented instrumentalists that make up the 10-piece ensemble only help to drive their high-energy tunes.

Honey Made encapsulates the feelings of life and vivacity; it’ll have you jumping about and pumped up for a great night out on the town. “Main Squeeze” kills it with the horns that add to the heavy drums, while Kelsey’s devoted vocals sends chills down the spine. In “The Shades,” the group invites the listener to pay close attention to their complicated arrangements, complete with subtle sonic expressions. All the while secondary vocalist Willie Barnes sings  to the greatness of every member in “The Shades.” Everyone has his or her moment to shine here and it is remarkable.

Mama K & The Shades have the distinction of opening for artists like George Clinton & P-Funk and the Sierra Leone All Stars. They were also featured prominently at this year’s SXSW Festival. If you enjoy music from Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Motet, and Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, there’s no doubt you’ll dig Honey Made.
