One car I, and may pop-culture fans, have always wanted to own is the DeLorean DMC-12. Luckily for us, we’ll soon have the chance to do so.
The iconic model, which will forever be tied to the Back to the Future franchise, is set to enter a small production run in the next few years. DeLorean Motor Company produced a bizarre video to thank their fans for keeping the spirit of the car alive, saying “Thanks for all the love of late…we appreciate it!”
We have John Campbell (R-CA) to thank for the DeLorean getting another production run via a US Federal Highway Bill called the Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act. This allows small-batch companies the ability to manufacture limited-run replica vehicles without having to conform to modern-day safety regulations. So, I guess the new DeLoreans will be just as safe, or unsafe, as they were back in the 1980s.
While Campbell was the original sponsor for the piece of legislation, DMC are giving the praise to Congressman Gene Green (D-TX) and Congressman Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), who were co-sponsors of the act. You can read more about the specs of the automobile on the new DeLorean blog.
