Today is the day when Americans will vote for their next President. While I’ve tried to keep a civil tongue in my head and avoid saying anything to offend anyone during my journalistic career, I realize I’d waste a perfect opportunity to talk about politics today of all days.
Coincidentally, the former President of Estonia, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, just released a video on social media, seen above.
The clip praises the bustling community that has developed within Estonia over the years, becoming something of a Wonderland for start-up companies. Making the joke “Estonia is sure a nice place to live if you don’t like whoever wins this election” would certainly be in poor taste, but I know that you are all thinking it.
Now, if you are curious about the elephant in the room, he’s from New Jersey, but it sure does give credence to that whole “Europeans all secretly speak English” conspiracy theory, doesn’t it? And before you ask about the second elephant in the room, no, he was not born in New Jersey. He was actually born in Sweden, but we’ve already gone over how the President of Estonia is just a meaningless title, so being born in the land of Skype ain’t a prerequisite.
Still, it sure is heart-warming that a kid from Jersey, one with a fine taste in bow-ties I might add, is able to make it in this crazy world of ours, and in Estonia of all places.
